Weldon Spring celebrates 25 years with festival

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 3:14 AM CDT

Weldon Spring is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its incorporation and 160th anniversary of its founding with a festival and commemoration ceremony.

The Heritage Festival is scheduled for 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sept. 19 at City Hall and City Park, 5401 Independence Road.

The festival will have a theme of Weldon Spring's history. More than 50 vendors will be on site selling and displaying a variety of goods and products, and crafters will sell their wares and demonstrate their making.

A commemoration ceremony Nov. 7 of the rebuilt Treisch Family Log Smoke House will mark the 25th anniversary of the city's incorporation. Details about this event will be released later.

Parking for the Heritage Festival will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on the City Park front lawn. The paved areas at City Hall will be reserved for handicapped parking. Additional parking will be available at Mary Emily Bryan Middle School at the corner of Independence Road and Patriotic Trail. A free shuttle will run every 15 minutes between locations.

"I'd like to personally thank each of the volunteers serving on the 25th Anniversary Committee, especially Ron and Ronnie Griesenauer for agreeing to co-chair the committee. Everyone involved has put many hours in over the last eight months to help plan and prepare for the upcoming events! I hope to see lots of familiar faces as well as some new ones at the Heritage Festival on Sept. 19," Mayor Donald Licklider said.
