BLOOD DRIVE: The Lake Saint Louis Police Department and Lake Saint Louis Fire Protection District will sponsor a blood drive from 3-7 p.m. Aug. 18 at Lake Saint Louis Civic Center Council Chambers, 200 Civic Center Drive. While walk-ins are welcome, it is recommended that donors schedule an appointment by calling the Lake Saint Louis Police Department at 636-625-8018.

AUTISM: Autism Education and Support Services hosts classes at the Center for Autism Education, 105 Crossings Industrial Court in O'Fallon. Classes include Understanding Autism, 6-8 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month, and Strategies for Challenging Behaviors, 6-8 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month. CHILDBIRTH: SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, 100 Medical Plaza in Lake Saint Louis, offers childbirth preparation classes to assist women and their partners to prepare for the birth of their baby. Information includes coping with labor, relaxation techniques, breathing methods and pain management options. It is recommended that these classes be started early in the third trimester. BREAST-FEEDING: SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, 100 Medical Plaza in Lake Saint Louis, offers breast-feeding classes for women who are planning to breast-feed and for those who have not yet decided. It is designed for mothers, fathers, grandparents and support persons and includes information on how the breast makes milk, how to establish a good milk supply, avoiding sore nipples and nurturing the breast-feeding family. CPR/AED training adult and child plus CPR training infant - 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Aug. 15. This course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency situations and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. Learn to care for conscious and unconscious choking victims, perform CPR and use an AED. Students will receive a CPR/AED Adult and Child plus CPR Infant certificate valid for one year. Class costs $53.
CPR/AED adult training - 6-10:30 p.m. Aug. 17. This course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency situations and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies in people over 12. Learn to care for conscious and unconscious choking victims, perform CPR and use an AED. Students will receive a CPR/AED Adult certificate valid for one year. Class costs $43.
First aid training - 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 18. Designed for people who have current CPR certification, this course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to an emergency and give care to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Students will receive a First Aid certificate valid for one year. Participants must present a current, within one year CPR certification to be eligible. Class costs $32.
First aid with CPR/AED training (adult) - 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 27. This course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency situations and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies in people over 12 by providing care to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Learn to care for conscious and unconscious choking victims, perform CPR, use an AED and other skills. Students will receive a CPR/AED certificate valid for one year and first aid certificate valid for three years. Entire class costs $54. If you need only the CPR/AED Adult training, you may register for the first 4½ hours of the course for $42. For just the first aid component, register for the last two hours for $31.

PATIENT APPRECIATION EVENT: Crider Health Center and Molina Healthcare are planning a free patient appreciation event from 3-7 p.m. Aug. 13 at Wentzville Banquet Center, in Motel 6 at 900 Corporate Parkway. Event will include a performance by Gabrielle Stahlschmidt, children's activities, health screenings, food and beverages to celebrate National Health Center Week. Cholesterol, diabetes, dental and blood pressure screenings will be given. Businesses will provide informational booths and free giveaways. OPEN HOUSE: Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, 10 Hospital Drive, will have an open house for its new South Pavilion from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 16. The event is free and includes gifts, attendance prizes, tours and refreshments. The $28 million project adds two patient care floors with a capacity for 64 patient beds, a new inpatient pharmacy and medical office space. SURVIVOR NIGHT AT THE BALLPARK: Cancer survivors and their families can receive free tickets to the River City Rascals vs. The Gateway Grizzlies game at 6:01 p.m. Aug. 23 at T.R. GOLF BENEFIT: The Crider Health Center Foundation Golf Tournament will be Aug. 24 at Bogey Hills Country Club, 1120 Country Club Road in St. Charles. Format is a four-person scramble. Cost is $150 per person or $600 per team and includes lunch, beverages on the course, greens fees, golf cart, contests, prizes, hors d'oeuvres and more. Participants should check with their insurance company regarding coverage and bring their insurance cards with them.
