NEW: Fire destroys house near St. Peters
Firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze for almost an hour Wednesday night at a house near St. Peters.
At 10:10 p.m., firefighters with Central County Fire and Rescue responded to a fire a home at 505 Woodmere Crossing Court, in the Woodmere Bluffs subdivision, near Caulks Hill Road in unincorporated St. Charles County.
The Cottleville Fire Protection District, St. Charles Fire Department and the St. Charles County Ambulance District assisted with the fire,
When fire crews arrived they noticed heavy flames shooting from the roof of the two-story home, according to a Central County news release.
The home’s occupants had escaped the fire and were standing outside when firefighters arrived, according to the release. As of Thursday, firefighters did not release the homeowner or occupants names.

Investigators initially thought the home had been struck by lightning, according to the release. The occupants of the home said they heard a loud thunder sound and started having some electrical problems before noticing flames coming from the roof. The house sustained an estimated $500,000 in damage and was completely destroyed.
Central County firefighters remained on the scene until 9 a.m. Thursday making sure no other fires ignited, according to the release.
